My week was full, and fun, and with much to be thankful for. So, with no further introduction, here’s my list of Ten Thankfuls.

I’m thankful to have avoided jury duty for the second week in a row (Thankful #1). Again, I’m sure it would have been rewarding, but it also would have been quite disruptive, and with my parents (aka: back up childcare) about to go out west to visit my brother and his family, I question how that would have worked.

That said, I remain thankful for a job that pays for the day away from work; and for a day downtown. Once excused, I hit Chapters on the way home for a nice quiet browse. All alone. By myself. It was GLORIOUS. I picked up the next book in the series I am currently reading (yes! I’m actually reading again) and discovered a delightful teen fiction series I might put on my Christmas list (Thankful #2). I think the cover of the first book in the series sort of speaks for itself …

I’ve mentioned a few times that I like my undead more brooding vampire than brain eating, but I think even I might appreciate a zombie killing Alice.

I’m thankful for Craft Show season (Thankful #3). I posted a review of one of my favourite shows a couple week’s ago where I mentioned that my mother has been on the local crafty circuit since I was around ten – so I’ve grown up around it. I now visit my mom at various shows with my girls, and have also taken them to a few others.

This Friday, we hit Ten Thousand Villages again as they had a free handbell concert which made a nice “Girls Night Out” before bed with my daughters and my mom. Last weekend, we visited my mom and the girls’ daycare provider at the annual Canterbury Craft Show and today we hit Capital Pop Up to try to find a good gift for granny (we did: Shhhhh).

I’m thankful for educational fun in blogland (Thankful #4). This week Not a Punk Rocker taught me a new term: bi-sci-fi. As in: equally loving of Star Trek and Star Wars.

This immediately resonated as I was raised on Star Trek with a Spock loving mom; but am a child of the 80s… so STAR WARS.

That said? It also made me realize that in a battle of the fuzzy things?

Tribbles would TOTALLY take Ewoks!

I love that blogging allows me to entertain such randomly fun thoughts.

However, I’m then thankful that a good friend bailed on me for a rare evening out (Thankful #5).

Why? Because the result was that my husband and I got to have a date night (Thankful #6).

Where the only Netflix movie we could agree on made me realize the one thing that could take BOTH Tribbles and Ewoks:

You know, I don’t think the poster really is enough said. It doesn’t fully illustrate the pure ridiculous awesomeness of Sharknado. So here’s two gifs:

I loved every moment of this – except the short bit where I fell asleep (Sleep: Thankful #7). I got to revisit 90210 with Ian Ziering being there and well, it was just so over the top that, yeah – well worth it.

I’m thankful for the sometimes sobering view my daughters give me about my behaviour (Thankful #8). My eldest misplaced one of her Barbies a few days ago and proceeded to A) Completely lose her shit and B) Storm around the house stating that “My life is OVER!”

While I admit I sort of looked at her with the “Ian Ziering’s an action hero and this movie actually worked?” confusion of Tara Reid in Sharknado:

I did make a note to self to work on how I deal with frustration.

I’m thankful that I made it to the gym twice this week and that one time included an athletic conditioning class after work yesterday (Thankful #9). I’m glad I fit it into my schedule. Based on my increasing inability to walk I suspect I needed it.

I’m thankful my eldest (now five) is at an age where she can sometimes still throw shy caution to the wind in public (Thankful #10). After first snowfall last week she seems to have remembered her last year’s love for Frozen and has been belting out “Let it Go” continually. This week she drew a number of smiles as she determinedly stormed through the grocery store with me singing out about how she can’t “hold it back anymore” and how “the cold never bothered me anyway.”

I also kinda love her current “favourite” on the radio. Whenever we’re in the car, she keeps asking me to find Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass“. If I surf stations I can usually deliver. We’re also now including it when we “dance party” after dinner.

I know that while she isn’t really listening yet things are still sinking in, so I have to love any song that tells girls they don’t have to conform to a prescribed beauty standard and that “every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.”

That’s my thankful for this week.
