In addition to the deluge of rain this week, the ants are also back. We (thankfully) missed them last year. But apparently our home defences were simply no match for the damp of Ottawa Spring 2017 to date. So far just a few. And traps set. We’ll see where we’re at in a week. Fingers crossed…

When is there ever just ONE ant?
I stopped the bedtime routine abruptly – complete with half-naked toddler as I was en route for a Pull-up when I discovered said ant – and turned my attention to the hallway floor.
Sure enough.
I then saw a second.
And a third.

I followed where they were coming from into the bathroom and found four more scurrying across the floor there.
I abruptly killed the seven found to date and continued my inspection. I lifted a towel left discarded from the floor and discovered a group of them lugging the remains of my kids Oreo snack from the previous night away in huge crumb size chunks back toward the floor boards and what I can only assume was about to be one hell of a buggy party complete with CAKE.

Baby Gates Down 
Oh goodness yes! Those tedious varmints appear every year without delay or disappointment. Always ready to party in the kitchen or in the bathroom around the sink. And there I am always looking for a way to completely eradicate their existence through multiple extermination companies!

We have yet to find them in the kitchen thank goodness. Two days in and the traps seem to be helping here. So fingers crossed that does it. Good luck to you!

Fortunately I rarely get them in the house, they confine themselves to the backyard for the most part. Although I do recall one occasion where a conga line of black ants did find their way indoors and set up a brunch at my cats’ food bowl.

Ugh, I feel for you. Bugs and insects can do what they like in the garden but once they’ve crossed the threshold into my territory then they’re walking dead 🙂

Agreed! It’s an interesting nuance to explain to the kids though… What are those traps for? Uhhh…. they encourage the ants to go home!

Ants are not fun. We use to get them before we did our home renovation but so far they haven’t come back. I’m not exactly sure why. I used a borax and sugar water home method that worked fairly well although I can’t be sure since I’ve blocked most of the ant memories. They’re so annoying. Good luck getting rid of them.

Thanks! I think the basic traps are doing the trick – but I’ll know in a week or so. And glad to hear your renos – for whatever reason – seem to have blocked the ants for you.
